233-241 High Street, Edinburgh

This building, located at 233-241 High Street in Edinburgh, dates from around 1795 and includes some earlier elements. It is a four-storey and attic, six-bay tenement that features a public house on the ground and first floors. The exterior is primarily constructed of ashlar, with rubble on the sides. There are cill courses on the second and third floors, and the second floor has balustraded windows in three bays on the left. Above this, there is a three-window pedimented dormer, and to the right, a piend-roofed timber dormer.

The public house has a two-storey elevation, with a corniced and consoled ground floor, and Ionic pilasters, a cornice, and pediments on the first floor. There is a gated pend to the right leading to Geddes Entry, and a rubble wall to Anchor Close with brick buildings situated behind it. The windows are timber sash and case with 12-pane glazing, although the public house features modern glazing. The building also has corniced end and ridge stacks with circular cans.
