Description
The Scott Burial Vault at Malleny House in Edinburgh likely has its origins in the late 17th century but was largely rebuilt in the 19th century. This single-storey, gabled vault has a rectangular plan and is set into higher ground on the southeast side. It is situated in a wooded area to the northeast of Malleny House. The structure is made of stugged sandstone with polished ashlar margins and dressings, featuring chamfered reveals.
On the northwest elevation, there are three bays, with a blocked and barred door at the center. An armorial plaque is present, inscribed with 'closed by Colonel Francis Cunningham Scott C B 1884'. The windows on either side of the door are also blocked. At the gablehead, there is a pierced trefoil design.
The roof is gabled and covered with slate, featuring ashlar coping at the skews.
