Canongate Manse, Reid's Court, 95 Canongate, Edinburgh

The East Wing of Canongate Manse, located at 95 Canongate in Edinburgh, is an early 18th-century building that was restored by Ian Gordon Lindsay and Partners in 1958, with further restoration in 2002. This classical manse is two stories high and features five bays, with piend-roofed wings that create a U-shape, set back from the street. The exterior is harled with ashlar dressings, raised margins, and quoins. The central entrance has a four-panel timber door topped by a rectangular fanlight. The ground floor at the rear includes mullioned tripartite windows with narrow margins. There is a two-storey stair projection at the rear center and a 21st-century single-storey extension to the right.

Inside, the layout is symmetrical, with staircases on both the left and right sides of the building, although the right staircase is now blocked. The first-floor room features fine 18th-century panelling and scalloped shelving, along with some ornamental plasterwork fire surrounds and cornicing. A broad turnpike stair at the rear leads up to the attic level.

The building has 12-pane timber sash and case windows and is roofed with grey Scottish slate. The main block has ashlar skews with ornamental scrolled skewputts, end stacks, and tall stacks on the outer wings, along with clay cans and cast-iron rainwater goods.

The boundary walls and gatepiers consist of substantial, tall, square gatepiers with moulded coping and pyramid caps, accompanied by low, squared rubble walls. There are later cast-iron gates featuring a shield crest and railings.
