Description
22-24 Cockburn Street is a Baronial-style tenement building designed by architects Peddie and Kinnear between 1859 and 1861. It stands three stories high with an attic and features a symmetrical three-bay façade. The exterior is constructed from squared and snecked lightly stugged ashlar, accented with polished dressings. A moulded string course runs between the ground and first floors, connecting to the adjacent building at No 22 on the right. There is a stepped cill course at the second floor and a shallow corbel table at the attic level. The windows are framed in stop-chamfered surrounds, with stone-mullioned bipartite windows in the center bay. The attic includes three gabled dormers, with the central one being larger and topped with finialled skews. The ground floor gallery has a modern plate glass front, while the upper floors feature timber sash and case windows with four-pane glazing.
