Description
35 and 37 Cockburn Street in Edinburgh is a tenement building designed by architects Peddie and Kinnear between 1859 and 1861. It is constructed from lightly stugged squared and snecked sandstone, featuring polished dressings. The building has three storeys and an attic, with three bays and shops located on the ground floor.
Notable architectural details include a continuous cornice at the ground floor, a stepped string course beneath the second-floor windows, and a carved date of 1861. The building is topped with two finialled, crow-stepped gables that have beak skewputts. The corner of the building at Anchor Close is bowed at both the ground and first floors.
The windows are timber sash and case with four-pane glazing, and the roof is covered with grey slates. The chimney stacks are corniced and have circular cans.
