Trustee Savings Bank, 1 Deanhaugh Street, Stockbridge, Edinburgh

The Trustee Savings Bank, located at 1 Deanhaugh Street in Stockbridge, Edinburgh, is a mid 19th century building that underwent alterations in 1900 by the architectural firm MacGibbon and Ross. In 1998, it was converted into a restaurant by Malcolm Fraser Architects. The building features a plain trapezoid-plan corner block that was enhanced in 1900 with the addition of a circular-plan corner tower. This tower is corbelled out at the basement level and includes a key-blocked oculus on the ground floor, a broken-pedimented window on the second floor, and is corbelled to a square shape with clock faces on the south and southeast sides. The tower is topped with a fish-scale-slated broached conical roof that has a weather vane, an oriel window on the east side, and a balustraded parapet. The principal elevations are made of coursed cream ashlar, while the side and rear are constructed from squared and snecked sandstone. The building has 4-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey slate piended roof, coped wallhead stacks, and cast iron down pipes.
