Fire Station, 3 Hamilton Place, Edinburgh

The Police Depot at 5 Hamilton Place in Edinburgh is a pair of single-storey over-basement buildings constructed in 1831 by Thomas Brown for police use. They are built from droved ashlar and feature three bays. Building number 3 has blind elliptical arched recesses in each bay, which now have altered openings. Building number 5 has a central door with "No 5" on the panel above, along with blind elliptical arched recesses in the outer bays that also have altered openings. The east side has an upper 6-pane sash window, while the west side contains two 12-pane sashes and a blind central window. Both buildings are topped with a cornice and blocking course, which continues on all four elevations for building number 3. The rear elevation is two storeys high, with building number 3 having one window and one blocked window, while building number 5 features a variety of rear fenestration, including two cell windows. The buildings have a piended slate roof.
