Description
John Duncan, dated 1878. Symmetrical 2-storey, 8-bay Alexander Thomson style double villa forming part of symmetrical terrace. Grouped 1-1-4-1-1; recessed at centre and bays to outer left and right; advanced, gabled bays in penultimate bays to outer left and right. Coursed stugged sandstone; polished yellow sandstone dressings. Raised base course; raised cill courses centred at ground and 1st floors; overhanging timber bracketed eaves. Sandstone quoins; long and short surrounds to openings; sandstone mullions; projecting cills.
N (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: 2-leaf timber panelled doors at ground in recessed bays to outer right and left respectively; bracketed entrance canopy to No 29; columnar porch with balustraded balcony to No 30; single windows aligned at 1st floor. Advanced bays flanking centre comprising 3-light canted windows at ground; projecting, bipartite windows with swept eaves at 1st floor beneath fretted gables. Single windows at both floors in 4 bays recessed at centre.
Replacement glazing at ground to No 29; 2-pane timber sash and case glazing to remaining openings. Graded grey slate roof; terracotta ridge tiling. Central ridge and apex stacks; octagonal cans.
INTERIORS: not seen 1996.
BOUNDARY WALLS AND GATEPIERS: low coped whitewashed wall to Crichton Road; whitewashed, shouldered-arched datestone inscribed "Brighton Terrace 1878"; surmounting anthemion finial. Square-plan panelled gatepiers; triangular-faceted caps.
