Description

Dunluce is a 2-storey, asymmetrical Scottish Arts and Crafts villa built in 1907 by Mitchell and Whitelaw. The exterior is harled and painted, featuring cream sandstone ashlar details and dressings. A corbel course separates the ground and first floors, and the villa has deep, swept, overhanging eaves.

On the northwest (entrance) elevation, there is an off-centre basket-arched doorway with stop-chamfered arrises and a roll-moulded surround, leading to a half-glazed boarded door. Above this, a window at the first floor is framed by an ashlar roll-moulded surround. To the right, a taller shaped gable bay is advanced, featuring a canted ashlar window at the ground level that is partly recessed between piers supporting a corbelled upper storey, along with a shallow canted oriel at the first floor. To the right of this, there is a recessed bay with a window at ground level and a small window above at the first floor.

The southwest elevation has a centrally located window at ground level and another window above at the first floor that breaks the eaves, with a flat roof. There is a similarly detailed bay to the right with a half-piend roof over the window that also breaks at the first floor. On the outer left, a full-height bowed projection breaks the eaves, featuring cream sandstone at the ground level and harled at the first floor, with three windows at both the ground and first floors.

On the southeast elevation, there are two widely spaced windows at ground level, a small window to the left at the first floor, and a window breaking the eaves to the right. There is a recessed bay to the outer right with a window at ground level.

The northeast elevation is harled at the ground level and has a slate-hung upper storey. To the right, there is an advanced gable bay with a door and a shallow canted oriel at the first floor, while to the left, there is another advanced gable bay with a single-storey lean-to projection.

The villa features small-pane windows with top hoppers, a grey/green slate roof, harled coped stacks, and a shaped gable on the northwest elevation with ashlar coped skews and large scrolled skewputts, along with original rainwater goods.
