Description

47 Charlotte Street in Green Park, Helensburgh, is a two-storey, L-plan, asymmetrical Art Deco house designed by John Boyd in 1935. The exterior features vermiculated stuccoed elevations, a brick plinth, rendered cills, and a band course that runs along the balcony and parapet.

On the south elevation, there are three bays. The outer left has a window at both the ground and first floor. To the right, there is a recessed bay with a boarded two-leaf door framed by a brick architrave, alongside a tripartite French window that consists of a two-leaf door in the center flanked by narrow windows. Above this, there is another window at the first floor. The outer right has a further recessed bay with a French window at the ground level, a window in the re-entrant angle at the first floor, and a cantilevered parapet above that is curved at the angle. A cantilevered deck-balcony also curves at the angle to the center and outer right at the first floor. Access to the entrance is via a flight of steps leading to a terrace on the right, which is enclosed by a coped brick plinth.

The east elevation features a window at both the ground and first floor on the outer left, followed by three bays to the right. The center bay has a window flanked by narrower windows, and there is a new door to the outer right.

On the north elevation, there is a blocked door on the outer left and two narrow windows to the right. The elevation has an asymmetrical return to the right, with an off-centre left door, a window above to the right, and two narrow windows that are slightly recessed at the ground level, with three above. A tall stair window is located in the re-entrant angle, with a door to the right and three narrow windows at both the ground and first floor to the right.

The west elevation has two widely spaced windows at both the ground and first floor, with an advanced chimney wall at the center featuring a coped wallhead stack.

The house has fixed and casement metal windows with lying-pane glazing, a flat-roof terrace, and original rainwater goods. Inside, there is a fine timber panelled hall and stair, along with many original features including sanitary fittings, Vitrolite tiles, chrome plumbing, and a fine etched glazed panelled door leading to the roof terrace.
