Westbay Hotel, Corran Esplanade, Oban

The Westbay Hotel, located on Corran Esplanade in Oban, was designed by Charles Wilson of Glasgow around 1860. This classical hotel features three bays and is two stories tall with an attic over a raised basement. The front elevation is made of ashlar stone, while the rear is constructed of coursed rubble and the north elevation is rendered.

On the west elevation, the principal floor includes a wide entrance door and windows with cills, all framed with architraves and cornices. The first-floor windows have margins that extend into brackets beneath the eaves cornice.

The east (rear) elevation has a flat-roofed addition at ground level and a glazed bridge leading to an annexe, which is centered on the principal floor. The west front has modern glazing, including a glazed entrance door. The principal and first floors of the rear elevation feature plate glass timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are piend-roofed slate-hung dormers on the east and west pitches, with the east side having bipartite dormers. Cast-iron downpipes are also present.
