Bridge Keeper's Cottage, Oakfield Bridge House, Crinan Canal

Bridge Keeper's Cottage, located beside Oakfield swing-bridge on the Crinan Canal near Lochgilphead, dates from around 1800 with a later addition to the north. This rectangular-plan building was originally a bridge keeper's house and is situated on a steeply sloping canal bank, featuring a large basement section at the lower level to the rear. The exterior is constructed of rubble and is partially rendered.

The cottage has a single-storey and attic design, presenting a 4-bay appearance to the west elevation that faces the canal. It features a simple classical doorway with pilasters and a lintel. An early 19th century piended-roof addition is present on the north gable, along with a lean-to porch addition to the left. The rear elevation, which faces Loch Gilp, is deep and two-storey due to the falling ground. It includes a large segmental-arch doorway with double doors, flanked by single windows, and a blind recess above that is also flanked by two further windows.
