Description
The Anti-Submarine Artillery Testing Tank at Strone Camp dates from around 1940. It is a large reinforced concrete testing tank attached to an adjacent three-storey building with 11 bays.
The tank measures 100 feet long, 10 feet wide, and 40 feet deep. It features a 13-bay north elevation that is slightly recessed and buttressed, with a large double buttress projecting from the west elevation. The tank has coping and railings along the parapet walkway. Control rooms and a launch mechanism, including a hoist, remain in place on the flat roof to the east of the tank.
Inside, there is a large viewing hall on the south elevation, which includes a glazed wall made of small pane glazing set between the buttresses and caged ladders. The ground level features numbered bays and rails.
