Description

Casa Blanca is a mid to later 19th-century villa, built in an asymmetrical, rambling style. The villa is two storeys and originally had four bays, with an attached pavilion to the north. The exterior is painted harl with bull-faced stone margins and dressings, a base course, quoins, projecting eaves, and exposed rafters with decorative trefoil ends.

The west-facing (entrance) elevation features four bays, the main three-bay block with a lean-to porch, and a lower fourth bay to the far right. A tripartite window sits to the right of the outer ground floor bay, with a gabled dormer breaking the eaves above. The three-bay main block has full-height canted bays, with a narrower bay centrally placed. A more advanced canted bay is positioned penultimate to the right, each facet with a gabled roof and decorative plasterwork details in the gablehead. A bipartite window is located at ground floor level in the lower bay to the left, with a matching bipartite dormerhead breaking the eaves above. A full-height gabled canted bay is positioned to the outer left, again with plasterwork detailing in the gablehead. The lean-to porch is set against the gable, with shoulder-arched openings; one on the west elevation and two on the left return side, beneath a piend-roofed block clasping the left corner of the porch. The porch has a basket-arched door with an elaborate swept keystone and a two-leaf panelled door, and also includes a glazed vestibule door comprised of twelve fixed panes over a lower wooden panel.

The pavilion is linked to the main building by a low wall with undulating quartz coping. A blocked opening is apparent in the wall’s centre, with visible bull-faced stone margins. The service pavilion features a louvred window at ground floor level and a canted, corbelled, and louvred timber dormerhead above.

The east-facing (rear) elevation includes a low, piend-roofed service jamb to the outer left, a full-height canted bay breaking the eaves at the centre of the main block, and evidence of an alteration in the outer right bay. There is also a narrow gabled bay and a lean-to block on the right return. A cement-rendered pavilion is positioned on the outer right, alongside a wooden forestair leading to a swept-roofed opening.

The windows are plate glass sash and case, and the roof is covered with purple slates, with lead flashings. Corniced ridge stacks with octagonal cans are also present.

The interior features a main oak staircase with stained glass depicting a nautical theme. A rear cast-iron staircase is also present, along with an etched three-light stair window. Dentil cornices and round-headed windows are also notable, although the interior has been modernised due to a change of use.

A boundary wall and road sign are situated nearby. The boundary wall is constructed of whinstone rubble with harl-pointing and boulder coping. A cast-iron road sign affixed to the wall reads: 'Dunbarton 26 miles, Kilcreggan 2 miles, Coulport 3? miles'.
