Description

Myrtle Park is a post-1865, 2-storey, 3-bay Classical villa located on Shore Road in Kilcreggan, which has been converted into flats. The building features honey-coloured sandstone ashlar facing, with rubble on the side and rear elevations. It has polished stone margins and dressings, a base course, and a wooden console course that supports advanced eaves and a band course.

The main (west) elevation has three symmetrical bays, with steps leading up to a pilastered and corniced doorcase at the center. This doorcase features fluted consoles, a modern two-leaf panelled door, and a glazed inner door, with a window above. Flanking the entrance are full-height canted bays topped with wooden gabled pediments and acroteria finials.

The north elevation consists of a 3-bay block, with the outer right bay being blank. There is a small window at ground level in the center and a window above, while the outer left bay has windows symmetrically arranged. The rear jamb on the outer left is blank and recessed, made of rubble and raised to three storeys, with the second storey being cement-rendered. There is a flat-roofed cement-rendered porch at the re-entrant angle.

The south elevation features a 3-bay main block with a large canted conservatory at the outer left. A slightly advanced 3-storey block is located on the outer right, which is also cement-rendered. The main block is blank on the outer left, while the bays to the right have windows symmetrically arranged. The outer right block has bipartite windows on the left and single windows in the bays to the right.

The windows on the main front are plate glass timber sash and case, while the side elevations and rear jamb have 8-pane sash and case windows. The roof is a slate piend and platform with lead flashings, and it features sandstone corniced and coped stacks with lotus-shaped cans.

The interior was not seen in 1993.

The boundary wall and gatepiers are made of whinstone with harl pointing and quartz coping. The wall has a concave curve leading to the gatepiers, which have quoins and quartz slab coping. The substantial pair of ashlar gatepiers features colonnettes at the corners and are topped with a pedimented Greek key flat cap.

A small burn runs to the right of the house, with decorative shore pebbles and a harl bridge over it.
