Cottage, Limekilns, Port Kilcheran, Lismore

This cottage, located at Limekilns in Port Kilcheran, Lismore, was established between 1803 and 1804 by Bishop John Chisholm. It features a group of one single kiln and one double kiln, along with associated storage areas and a pier, all constructed from limestone rubble and raised at some point. The southwest single kiln is likely the older structure, rectangular in shape with two draw holes and pointed-arched drawholes, and it has undergone significant modifications. The northeast pair of kilns has beveled corners to the southeast, with two draw holes per kiln and depressed-arched openings, one draw hole from each kiln being in the bevel.

Inside, there are two vaulted storey rooms located in the abutment of the kilns, and there is a roofless lean-to extension on the northwest face. To the southeast, there is a large storehouse situated over the pier, which features a loading door at the seaward end, an asbestos roof, and a recently widened door at the northwest end.
