Description

67-71 Ferry Street in Montrose is a terrace of four 4-bay, 2-storey and attic tenements, built in 1850, with a 3-storey block at one end. The building is constructed from sandstone ashlar, which is squared and snecked, with part harling on the rear. It features a base course, a first-floor cill band course, and an eaves cornice, along with double-chamfered margins.

On the west elevation, the tenement on the far left has three doorways in the center at ground level, with the outer two now converted to windows. The central doorway has a small entablature, a rectangular 4-pane fanlight, and a panelled door, flanked by two timber-mullioned bipartite windows. There are four windows on the first floor, symmetrically arranged, with a bowed dormer above the outer bays. The tenement to the inner left mirrors the one on the extreme left but has two doorways in the center. The tenements on the inner right and extreme right are also similar to the one on the extreme left.

The north elevation adjoins 43-47 Ferry Street, while the south elevation adjoins 73-77 Ferry Street. The east elevation features a large semicircular stairtower that projects to the center of each tenement, extending full height and breaking the eaves, with a single bay on either side.

The windows are timber sash and case, with 12-pane designs at the first floor and in the dormers, while plate glass is used elsewhere. The roof is pitched with grey slate, and there are stone skews and skewputts at the rear, along with corniced ashlar ridge stacks.
