Description
City Hall Buildings, located at 9-11 Swan Street in Brechin, date from the mid-19th century and are designed in a late classical style. The building is two stories high, featuring an ashlar ground floor that houses shops. The original shop openings are moulded, and there is an entablature for lettering along with a cornice. The right-hand shop has an Edwardian style with a recessed door and convex splayed windows. The first floor has a fascia and subblind with six windows arranged approximately in a 1-2-2-1 pattern. The upper part of the building is constructed from coursed rubble and includes architraves and consoled cornices, a sill string course, a heave bracketed cornice, and a shallow parapet with urn finials at both ends.
Numbers 7 and 11 feature panelled doors, while No 9 has a modern canopy. The original shop windows are two-paned with a central timber mullion, and the upper windows are four-pane sashes. The roof is slated, and there is a box dormer at No 7, along with a piended rear block.
