Description

6-10 High Street in Montrose is a late 18th century, three-storey, L-plan tenement that forms part of an irregular terrace. The building features a shop at ground level, with a lined render finish to the front and rubble stone at the rear, along with plain margins.

On the south elevation, there is a pend to the right at ground level, which has a wrought-iron gate. To the left, the shopfront includes a polished granite stall riser and frame, plate glass, and a glass panelled door. The first floor has one enlarged window, while the second floor has two windows.

The east elevation also has a pend to the right at ground level, which is closed by a modern door at the end. There is a staircase to the upper floors on the right and a panelled door to the left. The shopfront is on the left, with a door in the centre flanked by plate glass windows. This elevation is symmetrical with three bays on both the first and second floors.

The north elevation features a pend to the left at ground level and a single bay in the centre. The ground window is boarded, and there is a gablehead to the right with brick repairs, while the left side has a half gablehead in brick. An attic storey addition includes a harled dormer facing west.

The building has a variety of timber sash and case windows and a grey slate roof that is piended to the east, with brick gablehead stacks on the north and south sides.

The interior was not seen in 1997. There are boundary walls made of coped rubble to the north and west, forming a garden enclosure, with a stugged ashlar gateway and a wrought-iron gate on the east side.
