Description

30-32 Union Street in Campbeltown is an early 19th-century, three-storey and attic, two-bay tenement situated on a terraced site. The building features a cement-rendered and lined elevation at the front, while the rear is roughcast with ashlar cills. It has an eaves cornice and projecting cills at the windows.

The west elevation facing Union Street has a shopfront on the ground floor, framed by pink granite pilasters with capitals and grey granite bases. To the outer left is an entrance door leading to a common stair, topped with a three-pane fanlight. On the right, there is a panelled entrance door to the shop, which is mostly glazed and has a plate glass fanlight above. The flanking windows sit above grey granite stall risers that are curved at the ends and feature applied brass lettering. A timber fascia with carved lettering and numbers is present, with a cornice above that is terminated at the ends by panelled brackets, which are surmounted by semicircular open pediments.

The rear elevation is roughcast and includes an apsidal stair tower. The building has modern glazing on the upper floors at both the front and rear, a grey slate roof, and piend-roofed slate-hung canted timber dormers. The shop door is panelled with a glazed upper section and a diagonal brass handle. There is a cast-iron profiled gutter with a decorative hopper at the downpipe on the left, along with additional cast-iron gutters and downpipes. The north gable features a roughcast, coped multi-flue stack with circular cans.

Inside, there is a panelled shop counter.
