Description
The Sunday School located at 38 North Esk Road in Montrose was built around 1888. It is a single-storey church with a small rectangular plan and an apse, constructed from stugged, squared, and snecked sandstone. The exterior features pointed arch windows with chamfered ashlar margins and a base course.
On the south elevation, there is a gabled entrance front with a central doorway that has attached columns, moulded reveals, and a hoodmould. The doorway consists of two leaf, chevron-boarded doors. Above the doorway, there is a circular window and a boarded, blind lancet in the gablehead, with windows flanking the entrance.
The west elevation has four bays, with the apse located to the left, which includes a doorway with a shouldered head and a four-panel door. The east elevation also has four bays, with the apse on the right side featuring a later lean-to. The north elevation presents a gable end with the apse and three windows.
The building has metal framed, horizontal glazing and a steeply pitched grey slate roof. A bell tower is situated to the north, topped with a circular stone cross finial on the south side, and there are stone skews. The interior was not seen in 1998.
