Lookout Tower, Fishtown Of Usan

The Lookout Tower in the Fishtown of Usan is a late 19th-century structure that serves as both a lookout tower and a residence. It is built from pink stugged sandstone, squared and snecked, and has a near square plan. The tower is located at the corner of a walled fishtown area.

The southeast elevation features a viewing balcony that is supported by metal joists, along with a segmental-arched bipartite window at the ground level. Above this, there is a glazed, projecting conservatory bay on a slatted timber base that wraps around the corner and extends onto the balcony. The northeast elevation includes a slate-roofed lean-to on the right side at ground level, with a narrow window above it and an advanced chimney breast at the center of the wallhead stack.

On the northwest elevation, there is a forestair leading to the entrance, while the southwest elevation has a narrow window on each stage. The tower features small-pane timber windows and is topped with a grey slate roof that has a stone ridge and an attenuated finial at the apex.
