Description
Strathmartine Castle features a mid-18th century, two-storey tower with a square plan and classical detailing. The structure is made of pink rubble sandstone, accented with large irregular re-used quoins, some of which are tooled and moulded, and shows traces of harling. It has a cavetto moulded wallhead course, and although it originally had a pyramidal slate roof, this has collapsed and been replaced with a flat corrugated metal roof.
On the southeast elevation, there is a full-width segmental arch with irregular voussoirs and rubble infill, featuring a margined door at the center. Above this, at the first floor, is a tall round-headed unglazed window with slightly raised margins. The east elevation has a blocked door on the right and an arrow slit ventilator at the first floor. The west elevation also features an arrow slit ventilator at the first floor. The north elevation includes a full-width segmental arch with regular ashlar voussoirs and rubble infill, with a margined door on the left. There is a circular margined window, which is blinded, at the first floor.
Inside, the floor has collapsed, but there is a fireplace located in the southwest angle at the first floor.
