Craigmount House

Attributed to William Gillespie Lamond while draughtsman to C and L Ower (circa 1896-8), 1896. 2-storey and attic, basically rectangular -plan, gabelde villa. Snecked bull-faced rubble, ashlar dressings, grey slate roof, red tile platform roof at entrance porch and rectangular windows/verandah at S elevation. Base course; single, paired, tripartite and rectangular windows, plate glass sash and case glazing; deep eaves with plain bargeboards, moulded rafter ends, decorative corbels and bracesb to finialled dormerheads; corniced stacks, some shouldered and breaking eaves; cast-iron rainwater goods with decorative hoppers; decorative terracotta ridge tiles and cans.

W (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: entrance porch at left with 3 windows, door with side lights and fanlight at right return approached by steps with coped wall, red tile platform roof; window at 1st floor gable above, ridge syack; prominent stack at right; window at ground floor far right, dormerheaded window at 1st floor.

S ELEVATION: tripartite rectangular windows at left and right with side ights, linked by platform roof slightly advanced at centre with 2 round-headed pendant arches forming verandah with red tile roof; 2 bipartites at 1st floor, gable with sculpted motif at left, dormerheaded at right.

E ELEVATION: window at ground floor left, 2 at 1st floor, hipped gable with stack breaking through eaves; single storey kitchen wing with various windows and platform roof advanced at right, clasping angle and extending to N elevation; dormerheaded window and adjoining stack above.

N ELEVATION: door and window at right return of kitchen wing at left, 3 windows at ground floor, bipartite stair window, bipartite dormer.

INTERIOR: encaustic tiles and stained glass window in porch; tripartite inner door with etched glass; original chimneypieces, joinery and furniture throughout; foliate and moulded cornices; boarded dado in cloakroom; scale and platt staircase with turned balusters; stained glass stair window.

GAME LARDER: rectangular-plan brick game larder built into fall of ground at NE angle; pyramidal slate roof, remains of apex vent; 2-leaf boarded door.
