Bond Warehouse, Eastern Road, Montrose

The Bond Warehouse on Eastern Road in Montrose was built around 1846 to 1856. It is a two-storey, seven-bay symmetrical warehouse featuring quoined angles, a cornice, and a parapet on the west elevation. The alternate bays are recessed, containing blocked segmental arched doorways and blocked single-light windows above. The advanced bays have raised parapets, while the outer bays are blind, and the inner bays have blocked doors and blind windows above. The one-bay sides are treated similarly. The rear of the building has segmental-arched doors and was extended between 1860 and 1878, with single-storey rubble-built sides and a brick rear. The roof is piended slate with dividing walls and features two small segmental-arched dormers.

Inside, the warehouse showcases high-quality timber post and beam construction with slatted floors and formerly walls that were used to keep flax dry. The roof structure includes king post trusses.
