186-188 High Street, Montrose

186-188 High Street in Montrose is an early 18th century house with later additions and alterations. It is a three-storey, three-bay structure with a rear addition that forms a shallow L-plan. The exterior is rendered with a base course and raised margins.

The principal elevation features a pilastered, corniced doorpiece at the center on the ground floor, flanked by three windows to the right and a pend entrance to the left, creating a symmetrical appearance across the three bays on both the first and second floors.

On the west elevation, there is a pend entrance to the right on the ground floor, with a window on the first and second floors to the left. The jambs are in the re-entrant angle with the west wing.

The south elevation adjoins 192/194 High Street on the right and has a west wing to the left. This section includes two bays, with a corniced doorpiece to the right, a recessed panelled door, and a small window above on the first floor. The bay to the left features stone-mullioned bipartite windows on the ground and first floors, along with a dormer-headed window on the second floor, all with chamfered margins.

The north elevation adjoins 182/184 High Street on the left. The section to the right is in close proximity and has a blank rubble stone wall on the right with a lean-to built against it at ground level. The rendered single bay to the left has enlarged windows on the first and second floors.

The front of the building has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, while the rear has 8-pane windows. The roofs are pitched and covered with grey slate.

The interior was not seen in 1997.
