Description
Tolbooth Steeple, located on Low Street in Banff, was designed by John Adam between 1764 and 1767, with John Marr serving as the master mason and supervising architect. This building is a square, four-stage tower topped by a tapering, concave-sided hexagonal spire. It is constructed of ashlar stone with polished ashlar dressings. The ground floor features a corniced doorpiece set within a shallow arcade, while the first stage has a lunette above it. The second stage displays a pedimented clock face, and the third stage has a round-headed louvred opening. The structure is capped by a corniced wallhead with angle ball finials. The spire includes oval lucarnes, a gold apex ball finial, and a weathervane.
