Description
Woodston Fishery includes the Skipper's Quarters and Bothy, which dates from the earlier 19th century. This single-storey and attic building has a rectangular plan with six bays and is constructed of random rubble, painted on the southeast and southwest sides.
The southeast elevation, which serves as the entrance, is asymmetrical and features a piend-roofed boarded timber porch at the penultimate bay on the left, with single windows flanking it on both sides. To the right, there is a doorway in the penultimate bay, accompanied by irregularly placed windows.
The northeast elevation is gabled and has a doorway to the left on the ground floor, with a flat-roofed low addition to the right. Timber steps lead to an opening set in the gablehead, which is topped with a weather-vane at the apex. The northwest elevation is asymmetrical, displaying irregularly placed openings, while the southwest elevation is gabled with a single window to the right.
The building features predominantly timber sash and case windows and has a slate roof. Stone skews are present, with blocked skewputts, and there are gablehead and ridge stacks with circular cans.
The interior was not seen in 2000.
Additionally, there is an ice house from the earlier 19th century, which consists of two chambers and is set into the hillside to the east of the Skipper's House and Bothy, facing southeast. It is constructed of squared rubble and has a gabled southeast elevation, with the wall advanced to the left at ground floor and a doorway to the right. The gable-line of a former structure survives, and the inner chamber is vaulted.
