Summer House, Walled Garden, Netherdale House

The sundial and walled garden at Netherdale House date from around 1800 and are located to the north of the main house. The walled garden is constructed from ashlar coped rubble and is brick-lined with a pink wash, measuring approximately 120 meters by 140 meters.

The summerhouse within the garden is a two-storey Gothic structure built against the north wall. It is made of brick and rendered, featuring contrasting ashlar dressings. The entrance consists of a panelled door located centrally in a broad canted pavilion that projects outward and breaks the eaves. Flanking the entrance are windows, with three additional windows on the first floor, including a central pointed arch window. The summerhouse has rectangular-plan bays on either side, each topped with piended roofs and containing panelled doors at ground level (one of which is a two-leaf door) and a small window on the first floor. The windows are sash and case with a small-pane glazing pattern, and the pointed window features Gothic tracery. The pavilion has grey slate swept eaves, clay ridge tiles, and finials.

Inside the summerhouse, there are classical timber chimneypieces on each floor, with the first-floor room being more elaborate. The plasterwork is simple. Adjoining the summerhouse to the left are greenhouses, which are currently in a ruinous condition.

At the center of the garden stands a sundial, which features a horizontal dial on an ashlar columnar pedestal, inscribed with the name James Rose Innes of Netherdale.

To the south, there are gatepiers made of coursed ashlar, topped with cornices and pyramidal caps. These currently support a wooden gate.
