Description
Cortes House is an early 19th-century, two-storey and basement rectangular block. The exterior is harled with granite margins and dressings. The west front features four windows, with the central two being advanced. There is a couple-column Roman Doric porch with curved stairs, flanked by niches, and a tripartite doorpiece that includes some Gothic touches. Above the columns are triglyphs, and there is a modillioned cornice with a blocking course that has central panelled features, all finely detailed. The flanks of the building have three windows each. The main cornice includes a blocking course and central panels, and the roof is piended with two central chimneys and a conical lantern light. The interior is simply classic, featuring a central stairwell.
