Description
The House of Daviot is a baronial style house designed by James Matthews in 1876 for J. Mackenzie. It is a three-storey building with an attic and a four-storey tower and turrets. The structure is made of granite, featuring a mix of ashlar, squared granite rubble, and harled surfaces. Notable architectural details include an ornate band course at the second-floor level of the original parts and bay windows. Inside, there are some impressive Elizabethan ceilings and a late 18th-century chimney piece from an earlier house. The building has been converted into a hospital and has been extended, with further additions made by Matthews and Mackenzie in 1889 and additional modifications since then.
