Description
23 Low Street in Banff is a house built between 1820 and 1830, featuring three storeys and an attic, with a three-bay design. The ground floor has later shop fronts, while a wing extends to the rear at No 25. The main façade is harled, with harl-pointed rubble return gables and a rear section. The building has ashlar margins and dressings, which are painted on the street-facing side.
The ground floor has been largely altered by the addition of shop windows and an entrance, although some original rustication remains, also painted. There is an early 20th-century bracketed fascia board that spans the full width of the building.
The first and second floors have regular window arrangements, with the first-floor windows featuring cornices and moulded jambs, while the second-floor windows are smaller and plain. The outer bays have later 19th-century canted wallhead dormers, with one dormer located at the rear. The glazing includes plate glass in the shopfront, four-pane windows in the dormers, and 12-pane windows at the rear, all of which are timber sash and case.
The building has a deep moulded wallhead cornice, coped end stacks, and a slate roof.
At the rear, 25 Low Street is a two-storey block connected to the main house, constructed from harl-pointed rubble, featuring a wallhead stack and a piended slate roof.
