Description
Coldstone Churchyard serves as the burial ground for the former St Neachtan’s Church, situated on Kirk Hill. This is a rubble-walled enclosure with cast-iron gates, typical of an ancient burial ground that has been terraced into the hillside. The layout consists of a rectangular area of raised ground, enclosed by a low wall that creates a higher ground level. Part of the retaining wall has collapsed, particularly on the south side. The burial ground functioned as the centre of the Coldstone parish before it merged with Logie parish in the late 18th century, forming the current Logie Coldstone parish, which is located equally distant from the ancient burial grounds of both Logie and Coldstone. Numerous gravestones are present, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, with the earliest legible inscription dated 1748. The site's antiquity is further evidenced by the presence of the Coldstone Cross, a recumbent stone located centrally within the enclosure and designated as a Scheduled Monument.
