Description
This is a former Church of Scotland building, dating to 1781, and subsequently altered and extended in 1876 by Duguid of Ballater. In 1993, it was converted into a residential property. The building is a 4-bay, rectangular-plan church with a square-plan belltower to the northwest corner. The 1876 alterations included the belltower, a vestry, a porch, and crowstepped gables. The exterior is constructed of pink granite in square courses and features semicircular arched windows.
The west (principal) elevation has a tall window to the gablehead and a gabled porch with a bipartite window and entrance on the southwest return. A three-stage, square-plan belltower projects from the northwest corner, with staggered arrowslit windows to the lower stages. The third stage incorporates Venetian windows with louvred openings, above a continuous string course rising to a corbelled projecting cornice. The belltower is capped with a weighty spire terminating in a cast-iron weathervane. The east (rear) elevation has a small entrance to the ground floor and a large window to the gablehead. The north (side) elevation shows a boilerhouse with a lean-to roof, a gabled vestry, and the belltower abutting. The south (side) elevation features a regular 4-bay pattern of windows.
The building has a timber frame with plate glass glazing and grey slates covered by lead flashing, with gablet roof vents. Internally, the church has been converted to residential use, with a modern layout including a swimming pool occupying the nave. The church was originally founded to mark the amalgamation of the parishes of Logie and Coldstone and its location is believed to have been chosen by ministers of both parishes meeting halfway between the ancient parish kirkyards.
