Description
Migvie Church is an ancient burial ground, terraced into the side of a hill. It served as a centre for the Migvie parish before the parish was merged with Logie Coldstone in the late 18th century. The site is enclosed by a rubble-walled enclosure with cast-iron gates, and consists of a rectangular area of raised ground created by a low wall, resulting in a higher ground level. Numerous gravestones from the 18th and 19th centuries are present, including several recumbent slab stones carved with death motifs, which are similar in style to those found at Tarland and Coull. The antiquity of the site is indicated by the Migvie Stone, a Pictish standing stone depicting a rider and a knotwork cross, which is a Scheduled Monument. The statutory address is Migvie, Migvie Churchyard.
