Description
The Logie Buchan Parish Church dates to 1787. It is a rectangular building with a birdcage bellcote on the west gable and a piended (hipped) east gable. The south wall has two windows, the north wall four, and the east wall incorporates two older openings built into the rubble. All windows are square-headed. A Victorian porch, built in 1891, is attached to the vestry on the west gable.
The interior features an original ceiling with an Adamesque centrepiece. The rest of the interior was recast by William Ruxton in 1912. Originally, the church had a pulpit centrally located on the north wall and a horseshoe gallery. Today, it has an east pulpit and a west gallery displaying the Buchan coat-of-arms, carved by George Reid of Peterhead. Two-light gothic tracery windows were inserted into the windows at this time. Monuments are present to Thomas Buchan (died 1819) and Robert Buchan (died 1825). A ladle is dated 1616 (LK), and a memorial is dated 1728 (Robert Maxwell Bell).
The building remains in use as a place of worship. Information regarding the bell's acquisition is available in the session records.
