Springfield, Ballandro Loan, Johnshaven

Springfield is a two-storey, three-bay house built in 1845, with alterations to the attic around 1900. Constructed for a merchant and later used as a manse, the front elevation is of red sandstone with rusticated quoins on the ground floor, while the sides and rear are harled. The main entrance is centred, framed by a decorative doorpiece with console cornices and a block pediment. Flanking the door are original twelve-pane sash and case windows. First-floor windows are three-light windows, likely dating from around 1900, and break the wallhead beneath prominent, shaped dormerheads. The roof is slate-covered and features corniced end stacks. The side elevations have windows arranged asymmetrically. A small extension projects from the rear, and a rear elevation is harled.
