Description

The Mill of Fintray is a late 18th century, two-storey, three-bay L-shaped mill that is currently not in use. It features later additions and alterations, constructed from tooled coursed granite and random rubble with tooled long and short dressings.

On the northeast elevation, the design is asymmetrical, with a timber gabled doorway at the center that breaks the eaves, featuring a boarded timber door. There is a modern metal flue to the left flanking bay, and to the right, an advanced gabled bay from the late 19th century has an infilled opening at the center, flanked by a small square infilled opening on the left, while the left return is blank.

The northwest elevation is also asymmetrical, displaying regular fenestration in the center and left bays. To the right, there is a gabled bay that houses a six-spoke single ring overshot timber and iron water wheel on the ground floor, with a window set in the gablehead and a carved stone finial at the apex.

The southwest elevation is obscured by the remains of an adjoining building that has now been demolished, showing irregular openings. The southeast elevation is symmetrical and gabled, with a small infilled opening at the center.

Inside, the mill features timber columns, beams, a stair, and a first floor, with some machinery and fixtures still in place.
