Arbuthnot House, Broad Street, Peterhead

Arbuthnot House, located on Broad Street in Peterhead, was built in 1805 and incorporates elements from an earlier house. It is a two-storey building with a basement and features a five-window front. There is a single-storey wing that has been raised to two storeys. The entrance has a rusticated and keyblocked doorpiece, and there is a central attic pediment with a round-headed window. The area piers are topped with balls, and the front has a concave shape facing Union Street, complete with a pediment and a columned central tripartite window. At the back, there is a double bow front. Inside, the fine entrance hall is adorned with reeded columns, leading to a two-storey galleried hall with apsed ends. The high-quality interior work on the ground floor has been somewhat diminished by the removal of chimney pieces.
