Description

The building comprises a Celtic cross erected in 1868. The cross bears an inscription dedicating it to William Cosmo and Mary Grace Gordon of Fyvie, and commemorating the site of the ancient Priory of St. Mary’s, founded in 1179, and the death of James Hay Chalmers in 1867. A further Celtic cross memorial, the Chalmers Cross and Fountain, exists in the parish at Monkhill, dated 1894. The cross is constructed from Corrennie granite, based on a design by A. Macdonald & Co. from Strathlachlan.
