Description
Mill of Durn is a 19th century mill that includes a single-storey core, which is said to date from 1730 to 1740. The building was raised to two storeys in the early 19th century and was converted into a dwelling house around 1985 by architect Leslie F Hunter. The exterior features harl pointed rubble with tooled rubble dressings. The east front is wide and has a regular three-bay layout, with the central gabled bay, which was formerly a kiln, slightly advanced. This bay is flanked by doorways on either side, which are closed with plank doors. The windows mainly have horizontal glazing, and there is a glazed ridge cupola above the kiln. The roof is gabled and piended, covered with slate and includes loft lights. A large overshot mill wheel is located at the south gable, along with a renewed lade.
