Walled Garden And Garden Cottage, Keith Hall

The Walled Garden and Garden Cottage at Keith Hall, designed by William Ramage in 1854, features a large rectangular plan walled garden that is terraced on three levels, with the cottage located at the northwest corner. The garden is constructed of brick, with ashlar doorpieces, terrace steps, coping, and other decorative elements. There are potting sheds at the rear of the north wall, which is adorned with three wide truncated crowstepped gables, and two lean-to glasshouses on the inner wall. The garden includes various implement and foot gates, T-plan steps, and curvilinear walls at the top terrace, as well as straight steps and curvilinear walls at the bottom terrace. The Garden Cottage is a single-storey and attic structure made of coursed ashlar, topped with a slate roof featuring diminishing courses and overhanging eaves with decorative bargeboards. A massive shouldered stack rises through the pitch of the roof, and there is a plain single-storey addition.
