Description
20 Rubislaw Den North is a villa built in 1906 by John Henderson. It is two storeys high with an attic and features three bays. The building is constructed from tooled coursed grey granite, with contrasting light grey dressings on the south elevation, while the rest is made of coursed rubble. It has a rough-faced base course, projecting cills, a dividing string course, and overhanging eaves.
The south elevation is asymmetrical, with a central doorway on the ground floor that has a panelled timber door with glazed upper panels and a letterbox fanlight, accessed by stone steps. Above this, there is a single window on the first floor. To the right, there is a five-light canted window on the ground floor, which has a parapet forming a balcony above with a tripartite window on the first floor. To the left, there is a piend-roofed bay that projects forward, featuring a tripartite window on the ground floor and a bipartite window on the first floor.
The east elevation is blank and has a gablet detail at the wallhead stack. The north elevation is mostly not visible due to a conservatory addition on the left. The west elevation includes a large round-arched stair window near the centre, with irregular fenestration elsewhere, a gablet detail at the wallhead stack on the right, and a single storey and attic wing on the outer left.
Most windows have been replaced with PVCu. The roof is piended and covered with grey slate, featuring lead ridges. The gablehead stacks are corniced with circular cans, and there are cast-iron rainwater goods.
The interior was not seen in 2000. The property also has square-plan gatepiers to the south, topped with shallow pyramidal caps, and low coped walls between them, with rubble walls making up the remainder of the boundary.
