Description

18 Rubislaw Den North is a villa built in 1906 by John Henderson. It is two stories high with an attic and has three bays. The exterior is made of tooled coursed grey granite with contrasting light grey dressings on the south elevation, while the rest of the building features coursed rubble. The base course is rough-faced, and there are projecting cills, a dividing string course, and overhanging eaves.

The south elevation, which is the main facade, is asymmetrical. It has a central doorway on the ground floor with a panelled timber door that includes stained glass upper panels and a letterbox fanlight, accessed by stone steps. Above the door, there is a single window on the first floor, along with a skylight in the attic. To the right, there is a 5-light canted window on the ground floor, which has a parapet forming a balcony above it with a tripartite window on the first floor. To the left, there is a piend-roofed bay that projects forward, featuring a tripartite window on the ground floor and a bipartite window on the first floor.

The east elevation is blank and features a gablet detail at the wallhead stack. The north elevation was not visible in 2000. The west elevation has a large round-arched stair window near the center, with irregular fenestration elsewhere. There is also a gablet detail at the wallhead stack to the right and a modern addition on the outer left.

The windows are predominantly timber sash and case with small-pane upper sashes. The roof is covered with piended grey slate and has lead ridges. Corniced gablehead stacks with circular cans are present, along with cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen in 2000. The property also features square-plan gatepiers on the south side with shallow pyramidal caps and low coped walls between them, while the remainder has rubble walls.
