Description

12 Rubislaw Den North is a villa built in 1905 by John Henderson. It is two stories high with an attic and features two bays. The southern elevation is made of finely finished, tooled coursed grey granite, while the rest of the building is constructed from coursed rubble. The base course is rough-faced, and there are projecting cills along with a dividing band course that forms the first-floor cill course. The eaves overhang, and there is half-timbered detail on the gableheads, complemented by timber bargeboards.

The southern elevation is asymmetrical, featuring a segmental-arched, chamfered doorway at the center of the ground floor, which includes a panelled timber door and a fanlight above. To the left of the doorway is a segmental-arched window with chamfered reveals. On the first floor, there is a bipartite window, and a gableted two-light dormer in the attic. To the right, there is a gabled bay with a four-light canted window on the ground floor, a parapet that forms a balcony on the first floor, and a tripartite window with a hoodmould above it. Additionally, there is a tripartite window set in the gablehead of the attic floor.

The eastern elevation is gabled with a window centered in the gablehead. The northern elevation was not seen in 2000. The western elevation is also gabled, featuring a wall plane that advances to the right with a window in the center, and a two-storey wing adjoining to the left.

The interior was not seen in 2000. The villa predominantly has timber sash and case windows with decorative upper panes on the first and attic floors of the southern elevation. The roof is made of grey slate with a lead ridge, and there are gablehead stacks with circular cans. The rainwater goods are made of cast iron.

The gatepiers and boundary walls consist of square-plan piers to the south with shallow pyramidal caps and low coped walls in between, while the remainder of the walls is made of rubble.
