Description
The Lodge Gatehouse at Balgownie Lodge dates from around 1830 and is a picturesque single-storey building made of harled stone with stone dressings and margins. It features broad eaves and low-pitched roofs topped with spike finials. The entrance section has a square pyramid roof and a projecting porch with a pediment, although the door is modern. There are two wings extending at right angles, one of which has a rectangular tripartite bay at the gable end and scalloped barge-boards. The windows are designed with mullion and transom crosses, featuring small panes, except for the canted bay on the side of the square section, which has been reglazed. The building also has a central pair of octagonal shafted chimneys. Additionally, there is an earlier 20th-century addition at the end of one wing.
