111 Gallowgate And Railings, Aberdeen

111 Gallowgate is a former soap laboratory built in 1922, now used as offices since 2006. The building is a single storey with a basement and features a symmetrical classical design with five bays. The street-facing elevation is made of grey granite ashlar, while the rear is constructed from red brick and includes two storeys and a basement.

The façade has a base course, cornice, and blocking course, with steps leading up to a central entrance that features a pilastered doorpiece flanked by two Doric columns. The entrance includes a recessed two-leaf, four-panel timber door with sidelights and a fanlight above. The outer bays are advanced and contain tripartite windows.

The building has predominantly small pane timber sash and case windows and a piended roof covered with grey slates, complete with coped ridges and wallhead stacks. It also has cast-iron rainwater goods.

The boundary wall and railings consist of a low granite wall topped with decorative metal railings along the street elevation. The interior has been comprehensively modernised in 2006.
