Newry Health Centre, Monaghan Row, Newry, Co Down, BT35 8DL

The Newry Health Centre, constructed between 1960 and 1979, comprises three single- and two-storey blocks with overhanging copper roofs, connected by low link blocks with flat felt roofs. Designed by Raymond Leith, the centre features a main entrance on one of the link blocks, marked by a projecting canopy. A continuous band of square windows runs below the eaves of each block; on the two-storey sections, the ground-floor windows are recessed behind supporting columns. A large abstract mosaic, created by Colin Middleton, is a prominent feature located beneath the entrance canopy. The mosaic is composed of coloured tile sections and stone embedded in cement. Wrought iron railings with chamfered granite bases and decorative wrought iron posts are also present. Colin Middleton (1910-1993) was a notable Ulster artist, recognised with an MBE in 1969. The building currently continues as a health centre.
