Description
This is a substantial two-storey gabled house dating to 1908, built in a somewhat staid late Victorian style, situated on the eastern side of Ballykilbeg Road, approximately three miles southwest of Downpatrick. The front façade faces west and is symmetrical. A flat-roofed porch with a dentilled cornice is centrally located, featuring a timber panelled entrance door on its north face and a sash window with margin panes and coloured glass with a label moulding above on its west face. A similar sash window with vertical glazing bars (two panes over two) is on the south face. Other ground floor windows flank the porch, with five more on the first floor and one to the ground floor of the south gable. The north gable is blank.
A two-storey hipped roof return was added to the rear of the property in 1918. Originally, this return included a large carriage arch on the ground floor which has since been filled with large windows to the north and south sides. The first floor of the return has two plain sash windows on its south side. A single sash window with horizontal glazing bars (two over two) is located on the first floor of the east face. The main rear façade has two sash windows, matching those at the front but lacking the moulding, on each floor to the left of the return. A door with a fanlight is located to the far left; a sash window appears to be present on each floor to the right of the return, though this could not be confirmed.
The exterior is finished with lined render, accented by rock-faced in/out granite quoins to the front. The roof is covered in natural slate with decorative red clay ridge tiles. There are four yellow brick chimney stacks and rendered parapets. Shaped cast iron guttering is present on the front. Other roof materials appear to be a mix of metal and PVC. The front is bounded by a low stone wall with decorative iron railings.
The house was built in 1908 by a Mr. McMullan, with the return addition occurring in 1918.
