Description

Substantial two storey gabled house of 1908 in somewhat staid late Victorian style, with flat roofed porch, label mouldings and quoins. The property is set on the E side of Ballykilbeg Road, c.3 miles SW of Downpatrick. The front façade faces W and is symmetrical. To the centre of the ground floor is a flat roofed porch with dentilled cornice. To the N face of the porch is the timber panelled entrance door. To the W face is a sash window with margin panes with coloured glass and label moulding over. To the S face is another sash window with similar moulding over, but with vertical glazing bars (2 panes over 2)- all windows to the front façade and S gable are the same as this. To the left and to the right of the porch are two windows, with five more to the first floor and one to the ground floor of the S gable. The N gable is blank. To the rear there is a roughly central hipped roof return, which was added in 1918. To the ground floor this return used to have a large carriage arch which carried right through, but to N and S this arch has been filled with a large window. To the first floor on the S side are two plain sash windows. There is another sash window (with horizontal glazing bars- 2/2) to the first floor of the E face. To the main rear façade there are two sash windows (as front, but minus the moulding) to each floor to the left of the return. To the far left is a door with fanlight. The writers could not actually see the rear façade to the right of the return, but from internal evidence there appears to be a sash window to each floor. The whole façade is finished in lined render with rock-faced in / out granite quoins to front. The roof is covered in natural slate with decorative red clay ridge tiles. Four yellow brick chimney stacks. Rendered parapets. Shaped cast iron guttering to front. The rest of the RW goods appear to be a mixture of metal and PVC. Low stone wall with decorative iron railings to front.
