Description

Tapered brick chimney of square cross-section standing to full height in what is now a Newry & Mourne D.C. waste disposal site. Elongated semicircular inset panels on all four sides. Corbelled at top and coped with granite blocks; the corbelling is pierced with pairs of blind semicircular-headed niches. Infilled semicircular opening at base on road-facing wall (to create draught), and infilled opening from former boiler flue on opposite wall, one-quarter way up from base. Yellow brick used in arch heads and in the stringing around chimney at same level. The structure was consolidated by NMDC when amenity site established.
